A great place to support local. There are many booths with a variety of items if you’re visiting. Additionally they have some foods/snacks and benne wafers as well at a couple of stands. We probably spent an hour or two looking through all the booths here.

Hello fellow humans, The Charleston City Market is one of those places that just pulls you in the moment you roll up to it. Sitting right there at the corner of Meeting Street, this historic building looks like it stepped straight out of a postcard — grand columns, brick charm, and that classic Charleston character that makes you slow down and take it all in. Inside and around the market, the energy is lively in the best way. You’ve got locals and visitors mixing together, vendors showcasing handmade crafts, sweetgrass baskets, art, snacks, and all kinds of Lowcountry treasures. It’s the kind of spot where you can wander, browse, and always find something you didn’t even know you needed. The area stays clean, walkable, and full of personality. Traffic can get a little busy around the intersection, but honestly, that’s part of the Charleston experience — the city is alive. Whether you’re shopping, sightseeing, or just soaking up the history, this market is worth the stop every single time. If you’re visiting Charleston, go ahead and put the City Market on your list. It’s a beautiful blend of culture, history, and Southern charm that never disappoints.

Great walking experience, great shops with authentic local crafts & foods. Tommy Condon's is midway, a block away on Church St ...good place to relax with great food. Peninsula Grill, and the cafe next door has a 12 layer coconut cake which is good, but NOT worth $17 a slice.

Loved this market that spans a few blocks and is a straight walk through a variety of vendors. The market is indoors and is great to walk through even if it is raining. We picked up some jewelry, puzzles and food during our visit. A must visit when in Charleston l!

The Historic Charleston City Market is essentially the "leadoff hitter" of your itinerary. It’s a four-block stretch of history, hustle, and some of the best people-watching south of Times Square. As a Yankee visitor, I have to admit—the pace is slower, the air is thicker, and the hospitality is so thick you could spread it on a biscuit. The "walkability" here is elite. You can park the car (or ditch the Uber) and just drift. On a bright, breezy day, the open-air sheds allow that Lowcountry salt air to swirl through while you browse. It’s flat, easy on the feet, and perfectly positioned so you can stumble right into a rooftop bar or a waterfront park when you’re done. This Market is a mix of high-end boutiques and local artisans. Sweetgrass BasketsYou’ll see the weavers at work—it’s incredible to watch. These aren't just baskets; they’re hand-sewn pieces of Gullah heritage that have been made the same way for centuries. Local honey, benne wafers (think sophisticated sesame cookies), and enough hot sauce to make a Bronx local reconsider their life choices. Had no idea about these before the visit. History time - It’s important to distinguish the "City Market" from the "Slave M
